Military airstrikes continue against ISIL in Syria and Iraq

SOUTHWEST ASIA - On Feb. 17, U.S. and coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria, using fighter and bomber aircraft to conduct two airstrikes. Separately, U.S. and coalition military forces conducted 14 airstrikes in Iraq, using attack, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL terrorists. All strikes took place between 8 a.m., Feb. 17, and 8 a.m. Feb. 18, local time.

Airstrikes in Syria, Iraq Destroy ISIL Targets

SOUTHWEST ASIA, Jan. 31, 2015 – U.S. and coalition military forces have continued to attack Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorists in Syria and Iraq, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve officials reported today.

Officials reported details of the latest strikes, which took place between 8 a.m. yesterday and 8 a.m. today, local time, noting that assessments of results are based on initial reports.

Heavy fighting for Syrian town of Morek

RUTERS NARRATION 
Rebel soldiers said they had taken control of the Syrian town of Morek in the central Hama province on Saturday (March 8) after two weeks of clashes.
The town, which is controlled by regime forces, is considered important due to its strategic position, enabling Assad forces to use its roads for supplies and reinforcements. But while clashes were continuing, the rebels said they now had control of key posts in the town.

Military Assets Ready to Back Up Diplomatic Push With Syria

WASHINGTON, Sept. 18, 2013 – U.S. military assets remain ready to launch attacks if the diplomatic efforts to secure and dismantle the Syrian regime’s chemical arms should fail, senior defense officials said here today.

In a Pentagon news conference, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the military role today is limited.

Obama Discusses Syria With Swedish Prime Minister in Stockholm

WASHINGTON, Sept. 4, 2013 – President Barack Obama and Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt discussed the situation in Syria during a bilateral meeting in Stockholm today.

“I discussed our assessment, which clearly implicates the Syrian government in this outrage,” Obama said after the meeting. “The prime minister and I are in an agreement that in the face of such barbarism, the international community cannot be silent and that failing to respond to this attack would only increase the risk of more attacks and that possibility that other countries would use these weapons, as well.”

World Watching as Congress Debates Syria Strikes

WASHINGTON, Sept. 3, 2013 – The entire world is watching to see what the United States will do about the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime, and how America responds will make a difference, Secretary of State John F. Kerry told a Senate panel today.

Kerry, along with Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, making the case for Congress to authorize the use of force against the regime of Bashar Assad.
