U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers Seize Almost Two Million Dollars in Heroin at Brownsville Port of Entry

Brownsville, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Veterans’ International Bridge discover heroin valued at approximately $1,960,000 hidden within a Honda Pilot

“These dangerous narcotics will not reach our communities thanks in large part to the outstanding work being done by our frontline officers. I congratulate our CBP officers for this seizure and arrests,” said Michael Freeman, CBP port director, Brownsville Port of Entry.

On Wednesday, September 18, at the Veterans’ International Bridge CBP officers came in contact with a 2007 Honda Pilot being driven by a 21-year-old female accompanied by a 28-year-old, both citizens of the United States who reside in San Benito, Texas. A primary CBP officer referred the Honda and its occupants for a secondary examination. In secondary CBP officers discovered eight packages hidden within the vehicle. CBP officers removed the six packages containing approximately 8.90 kilograms (19.6 pounds) of alleged heroin from the Honda Pilot.

The alleged heroin from this seizure has an estimated street value of approximately $1,960,000. CBP officers turned the women over to U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
